Introduction

To unlock the full risk management potential of scenarios, ORX conducted its largest ever benchmarking exercise on the end-to-end scenario process. In early 2024, 90 participating institutions reported on the maturity, advances and challenges of their scenario process based on a new maturity matrix covering 22 process areas.

The results, along with the outcomes of discussions with the Scenarios Community over the last 18 months, are set out in this report. The findings provide an opportunity to understand the recent progress achieved and the process enhancements that are now needed to fulfill the potential of scenario analysis as a strategically important active risk management tool.

“This study supports the ongoing efforts to streamline the end-to-end scenario process by showing that much is already being done to optimise the process and change business perceptions of scenarios. The necessary shift in perception is from a view of scenarios as a resource-intensive, manual, and duplicative undertaking to a process that is efficient, engaging, and reflective of the wider business and risk environment."
