About ORX

ORX is the largest operational and non-financial risk association for financial services firms in the world, currently employing circa 70 dedicated professionals and growing. We work closely with over 130 organisations and thousands of risk professionals globally to advance and champion the discipline.

We were set up by a small group of banks over 20 years ago to enable them to anonymously share highly-confidential operational risk loss data. Since then, we’ve grown and expanded to offer more services to our members, subscribers and the wider financial services sector. Alongside loss data sharing, we now carry out research on key topics, provide a range of collaboration opportunities and develop standards and references to drive innovation and support our community in an increasingly digitalised financial services environment. Our activities span the banking, insurance and asset management sectors.

The role

This Research Manager role is a challenging and rewarding opportunity to work with some of the foremost operational risk figures in the global financial services industry. The individual will lead and deliver important projects and activities within the ORX programme.

In particular, the role holder will focus on both the enhancement of operational risk management and resilience practices, enabling organisations to learn from peers, benchmark their practice and collectively enhance their risk management capability.

An important focus for this role will be the risk and resilience community. This will bring together senior practitioners to agree common areas of priority, and discuss and develop practice (including actionable outputs). The Research Manager will also be responsible for delivering top and emerging risk products.

The Research Manager must be an effective communicator, delivery focused and a confident facilitator. The role would ideally suit an individual with a background in financial services, research and/or professional management consulting. It is an excellent opportunity to further their career in a challenging and dynamic environment.

Principal duties and responsibilities

Key duties and responsibilities will include:

  • Leading on components of the ORX Risk and Resilience community programme with member input, and considering wider ORX priorities
  • Working with members to develop credible, actionable materials from the community (collecting supporting information and data as required)
  •  Leading on research projects, including risk landscape activities from data collection and analysis through to writing and presenting findings (e.g. speaking at roundtables or recording podcast materials)
  • Building strong relationships with members, canvassing opinion objectively and thoroughly to ensure the community and associated outputs are value-adding
  • Where required, lead and/or support projects on material risk, resilience or risk landscape topics. This includes scoping work, building of stakeholders as required and delivering value add outputs
  • Working with relevant ORX teams to ensure outputs are effectively communicated to members and the wider industry, including presenting at ORX forums and at other member and industry meetings
  • Managing ORX staff and support their development as required
