About this initiative

Cyber risk remains one of the most significant risks and strategic priorities for the financial services industry. In 2023/24, we published Faster & Safer: Priorities for Cyber Risk Management, identifying key priorities for the discipline, including cyber risk management maturity, data sharing, metrics and benchmarking, roles and responsibilities, cyber risk quantification and regulatory preparedness.
Since then, the landscape evolved significantly. Rapid technological change, growing interconnectivity, geopolitical uncertainty and frontier AI are reshaping cyber risk today.
Our proposed Cyber Thought Leadership study asks: What is the strategic role of cyber risk management in an AI-enabled, highly interconnected and increasingly autonomous world?
The findings of the study will help shape ORX's future cyber research and services.
Why take part?
By joining this initiative, you will have the opportunity to:
-
Shape the future of cyber risk management by sharing your organisation’s experience, priorities and perspectives
-
Help build an industry-led view of the role and capabilities cyber risk management will need in an increasingly interconnected and AI-enabled environment
-
Influence the future direction of ORX Cyber by helping ensure our research, services and community activity reflect the industry’s evolving needs and challenges
Who should sign up?
Taking part in the study will involve:
-
Senior cyber risk leaders, CISOs and Operational & Non-Financial Risk leaders who can share a strategic perspective on how cyber risk management is evolving
-
A single 60-minute confidential interview, held virtually or in person where feasible, exploring current challenges and future priorities
-
Interview questions will be provided in advance, giving participants the opportunity to prepare their perspectives and examples
Why now?
Delivered activities
We have engaged members in discussions on the rapidly changing cyber risk landscape and its implications for financial institutions. These conversations have explored key emerging themes, including AI and agentic systems, digital ecosystem concentration, third-party dependencies and cyber resilience, alongside the growing connections between cyber, technology, AI and data risk. They have also highlighted the increasing strategic importance of cyber resilience alongside prevention, and the need to better connect cyber risk with financial and business outcomes.
Current and upcoming activities
Building on these discussions, we are examining how cyber risk management needs to evolve in response to technological change, geopolitical uncertainty and increasingly complex digital ecosystems. The study will explore the future scope and positioning of cyber risk, its relationship with technology, AI, data and wider non-financial risk disciplines, and how cyber risk management can remain effective and strategically relevant as the risk landscape continues to evolve.
