Across four LeadersConnect Virtual discussions, members explored how AI is reshaping organisational risk profiles. While AI is generally viewed as a cross-cutting risk driver rather than a standalone risk, participants consistently described its impact in two distinct but interconnected ways:
-
Externally, AI is changing the threat environment, increasing the speed, scale and sophistication of existing risks across cyber, data and third-party ecosystems.
-
Internally, AI is changing the organisation itself, as firms increasingly embed AI into products, processes, decisions and operating models.
Although these dynamics differ, participants repeatedly highlighted a common challenge: risk management, governance and control frameworks designed for a slower, human-centred environment are being tested by systems that operate with increasing speed, autonomy and complexity. AI is therefore viewed less as a standalone risk and more as a force that is reshaping how existing risks emerge, evolve and need to be managed.
