About the
Risk Management Principles project

We’re developing a new set of Risk Management Principles to help define what effective risk management looks like in a faster-moving, more interconnected and increasingly technology-enabled environment.

The case for change

This project builds on our strategic vision for the future of operational and non-financial risk and reflects key themes emerging from discussions with risk leaders across our community during 2026.

These conversations point to a future where risk management is more connected, embedded in decision-making, continuously informed by data, and better able to support organisations in navigating change with confidence.

About the project

Developed in collaboration with our knowledge partner McKinsey, this project aims to establish a practical industry framework designed to make risk management more:

  • Connected
  • Outcome-driven
  • Data-enabled

An initial publication is due in late 2026, providing a foundation that we – and our members – can continue to refine and build on through 2027 and beyond.

The principles are intended to establish a shared vision of future risk management practice, helping institutions evolve beyond fragmented and domain-specific approaches while strengthening decision-making, resilience and cross-domain risk oversight.

“As operational risk is pervasive, we need to collaborate and share learning from each other in order to more efficiently manage op risk as an industry.”

Working with our members

To ensure the framework reflects industry needs and ambitions, we are gathering feedback from our members through a dedicated focus group and other engagement activities.

We will also look to seek wider feedback later in 2026. Member input will help shape and refine the framework and inform the continued evolution of our work in 2027.
