About the study
The risk landscape is shifting fast – driven by global instability and rapid advances in AI. The Operational Risk Horizon study gives you a clear, industry-validated view of emerging risks facing financial firms.
Help us build a comprehensive picture of the risk landscape over the next 12-36 months by taking part in the Operational Risk Horizon survey and sharing your organisation’s views.
As part of our wider risk landscape work, the Operational Risk Horizon study is an essential resource for comparing your firm’s perspective on emerging risks with views from the wider industry.
How our community use the Operational Risk Horizon
“The report is used to inform our internal emerging risk exercise, update governance forums on horizon risks and industry trends and for discussion as part of the RCSA."

Decoding an increasingly interconnected landscape
This study provides valuable insights into the complex interconnections across the entire risk landscape - how individual factors are linked, and how this affects current and future material risk exposures.
Following a similar methodology to previous years, participating firms will be asked to provide details on:
- The greatest emerging risk concerns to their organisation across a range of emerging risk categories and the underlying emerging risk factors influencing them, including any actions being taken in response
- A selection of focus topics for further analysis, based on previous studies and recent developments, for example, geopolitics, emerging technologies, skills and resources or regulation
- Further exploration of the future impacts of frontier AI on the operational risk profile
To enable participants to align their approaches, we'll provide definitions and guidance at the start of the survey. Please make sure you read this carefully before completing the questions. We also encourage you to read about how we approach emerging risks at ORX.
We've also just launched our complementary Cyber Risk Horizon project, which is open to members and subscribers. If you'd like to know more about that study, take a look at the Cyber Risk Horizon 2027 webpage.
Why take part?
- Ensure that your firm's perspective helps shape the industry's view of emerging risks
